Fun in the sun at Norwood Grange
There’s no denying that July was an absolute scorcher weather-wise. Keen to make the most of the sunshine, staff and residents at Norwood Grange had a fantastic time at their annual summer party.
For obvious reasons, this year’s event had to be a bit different from years gone by, when entertainers, family members, as well as friends and neighbours from the local community would have been invited to join the fun. This year, with COVID safety our number one priority, and trips to the seaside also on hold for the time being, the party embraced the sunshine and attempted to bring the seaside to Norwood Grange!
Michelle Ketland, Activities Coordinator at Norwood Grange explains “We couldn’t take residents to the seaside this year, so we brought the seaside to them! We arranged for traditional fairground activities such as hook a duck, old-fashioned slot machines, sandcastle building, and some dancing (we love to dance!). We also filled some paddling pools so that everyone could tinkle their toes - which was very welcome on a hot day and a great way to cool down!”
“As well as being fun for all (and a great excuse for a cocktail, which our residents love) the event was part of our commitment to delivering purposeful activities that stimulate residents and improve their wellbeing. Having seasonal events like this help to mark the milestones in the year, give people something to look forward to and add variety to our day to day activities programme. We involve residents in the planning to make sure the activities and events we offer reflect their interests, improve their quality of life and give everyone a chance to socialise. We also have great fun - which is a very important part of life at Norwood Grange!”
